scene on Boylston Street. Like most other locals I’m ready for things to go back to the way they were, so I avoided that area at all costs. </p> <p>Today however, hoping that I could get into one of my favorite lunch spots (I couldn’t) I ventured back around the corner. This was the first time that I saw the memorial that has been put up on the corner of Boylston and Berkeley. It was also the first time that I saw that Boylston was still as desolate as the day following the bombings.</p> <p>Seeing other people standing there trying to make sense of it all, I felt a hint of guilt for wanting to forget that this happened. Because forgetting about it takes away from the memory of the people directly affected by it. So instead of pretending like it didn’t happen, I too, am trying to make sense of it. Instead of avoiding, it I am documenting it. And instead of wishing things would go back to the way they were, I am acknowledging where we are now. </p> <p>As much as we might want to erase the past, we can’t. But we can help shape the future. In the wake of these events let us focus not on the evil, but on the good. Not on the hate, but on the love. I was living in the suburbs of NYC during 9/11 and I noticed the same thing that we are seeing now. All of a sudden individuals weren’t such separate entities anymore. Once she found out about it she tried to think of what she could do from so far away to show her love and support for her city. </p> <p>What started out as a plan to have her picture taken with the sign turned into an unpredictable outpouring of love. When she asked someone from Kabul to take her picture they reacted with a sadness in their eyes that only comes from having experienced that kind of pain personally.
